preparing for company

It's been a long week.
Cleaning, calling, picking up and dropping off, laundry, vacuuming (lots of it), dusting, toilet cleaning, shower scrubbing, gym-ing, mopping, moving, sewing (that's right, sewing). Car cleaning, dust bunny catching, dog wrangling. Fitness testing, studying, printing, organizing, packing.

I didn't do everything on my 'to do' list but I really don't care at this point...

because the dogs are kenneled, the sheets are clean, and their plane is landing.

Deutschland willkommen zu,

Enjoying what is left of...

-October-
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
-George Cooper, "October's Party"

Enjoy today.

p.s. Mom and Dad get here tomorrow!

Dear Chad-

I wish you had been here last night. For multiple reasons of course but mostly because one of those potatoes you bought a while back decided to rupture and excrete a balsamic vinegar like substance all over our kitchen. It was thrilling... but it smelled really bad.

On a positive note, Meatloaf says your side of the bed is wonderful... quite cozy... and he's taking full advantage of it.

We all miss you.

meatloaf bum just for fun

Chad... if you were here...

I would have given you the letter from our electric company to take to work to translate.

Meatloaf would not have sat staring out the window until 830 last night.

I would have made you something special for dinner... not just leftovers.

Your ACUs would be on the couch... right next to your boots.

Gnocchi would be napping on those ACUs.

Our bed would have been more inviting...

and warmer.

I miss you.

Dogs on Holiday

We survived our 'trial day' at the dog kennel. When I say 'we' I pretty much mean me and Chad... and when I say me and Chad... I pretty much mean me. The whining, whimpering, crying... it was almost too much to take and don't get me started on the dogs.

Anyways, I have to kennel the dogs because my parents are coming next week. I've known this was coming for a long time now but I enjoy living in denial. Not to mention we had a dog sitter who would come to our house and stay with them. That was awesome, but like all things, they must come to an end.

So, I found Dogs on Holiday on the 'recommended' list at our vet office. I called them, visited them, and set up our 'trial day' knowing that it would be a little rough.

After dropping them off I had to drive 3 ft. away from the building, pull over, and pull myself together.

We were only apart for a total of 9 hours before I went to pick them up.

Max, the kennel owner, said they did fine and he felt comfortable adding us to his clientele.

Then he told me Meatloaf had a problem with being one in a pack of dogs and needs to realize he's not the boss. He actually used the word 'prince' to describe Meatloaf.

During this time I just stood there with a smile pretending that he wasn't insinuating my dog is spoiled because common'....

that's impossible.

Flea Marketing and KrautFest

It's been a busy weekend. Just the way we like it. Busy with flea marketing and festival-ing with friends.

Leinfelden-Echterdingen celebrated it's annual Krautfest where all cabbage reigned supreme!
We enjoyed soup with kraut and braut, warm, spiced wine, and Turkish baklava.

The furniture above was purchased at the Deutsch Red Cross and the indoor market Chad and I visit. I have my work cut out for me with recovering and staining but they have good bones I say!
And I bought a bag of pumpkins for 5 euro...
which go perfect with our 7 euro gnome.

score.

Because I like dressing Meatloaf according to the holidays...

and because he allows me to do so!

(He really doesn't mind it... he wore this shirt all day long... but for photography purposes I made him sit his bum on the cold floor and he really hates that.)

Observations From A Dog Walk

Are you getting sick of random cabbage and lettuce photos yet? Just to keep you on your toes I added the dead, decaying frog. I promise I will get my Autumn obsession under control soon and stop posting pictures of trees, leaves, and rows of lettuce. But honestly... have you ever seen better looking produce??!! The colors... the textures...okay, I'll stop.

Happy Friday!

Fall... please hang around. Pretty please.

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. -George Eliot

and then we rode our bikes to Echterdingen for an ice cream cone.

And it was a lovely day.
