Gakwonsa Temple

A short drive from our house is Gakwonsa Temple with it's giant bronze Buddha. Chad and I have wanted to visit this place for awhile and what better opportunity than when you have visitors.
This temple (and many others) was built in 1977 to pray for the reunification of North and South Korea. He's one of the largest Buddhas in this province weighing in at sixty tons, sitting almost fifty feet high and with ears nearly five feet long.
This is a great afternoon drive for us and again, Korea killing me with their FREE entry (supposedly you have to pay for parking but that wasn't the case the day we were there).
I love visiting the local temples because each one is uniquely different but every single one has been absolutely stunning. The same thing that draws one into century old churches brings you to the base of these gorgeous temples. You don't have to be religious, spiritual, or Buddhist to appreciate their beauty but if you have a few minutes for quiet retrospection and solitude... why not spend it someplace as lovely as this?*

In the area and want to visit?  Go here.

* It is purely coincidence that two blogs in a row have ended with a question mark. They are rhetorical in nature. I'm not a writer, people.
